I need Air Con now!

So you want air conditioning..

Advantage Air is the way to go! We know the right companies to call in the industry if you are looking for standard air conditioning. So what is the typical process, you ask?

An air conditioning system sale generally passes through a couple of stages, which you'll see below. Generally, a salesman (or maybe the installer themself) will come out and see you, tell you about the parts and products he/she favours and follow the steps below.

In terms of a normal air conditioning installation, you will get at least 3 companies parts and services (but it may be many more). The installation company, the componentry company and the unit company all (typically) operate independantly, although the warranty for the install rests with the installation company.

On to the steps:

  1. Consultation - your salesman should listen to what you want, understand your situation and look to answer your needs and wants with a system thats suited to you.
  2. Design - Good air conditioning companies will take back more complicated house designs and map out the parts required and the heat load characteristics of the house. Here at Advantage Air, we have developed a design software tool, which will map out the parts required for your job (based on your houseplans) and give us an accurate representation of the unit required and the cost of the parts involved. That, combined with photos and information our salespeople get on their consultation give us a very accurate idea of the job at hand and that can be reflected in our quote to you.
  3. Quote - the quote should be detailed and matched to your needs determined in the consult. Terms of the sale should also be included or available.
  4. Sale - If accepted, details of the builder and acceptable times of install should be discussed.
  5. 'Rough In' - In jobs under construction, if the home involves tricky parts that may be hard to install later, generally a 'first fix' will be undertaken of some parts.
  6. Final Install - Not done until the owner is ready to move in, final installs are generally done late in the process due to the costly parts involved and the concern for leaving them in an unoccupied house, for your reassurance. Typically, we request an owner home on the day to give preferences on outlet placement and any other issues that may arise.
  7. Follow up - a good company will have prompt warranty teams and technicians in the event of something being not quite right.

Building and Renovating

Building and Renovating is an excellent time to get your air conditioning installed- especially if you have a multiple storey dwelling. Generally, we encourage you to get in contact as soon as possible in the process, as if building progresses too far down the line without provisions made for the air con, it can become a tricky (and costly) process. In today's houses, provisions aren't made automatically and once the house is built, it may be too late. Concrete slab floors are particularly tricky.

You may receive a quote from someone your builder has recommended - don't leave it there. There is no reason why someone else can't come in and work with your builder to put in the system you want. We recommend seeing a few companies and getting a feel for what is being offered, and do your research.

Existing House

Any time is a great time to get air conditioning- however, you may be able to get better deals and shorter install times in the quieter periods, often around April-May and towards the end of winter.
